CONSIDERATIONS IN METROPOLITAN SUCCESSION PLANNING
At the first meeting of the Metropolitan Succession Committee on January 21, 2022, the following criteria for best practices in succession planning were submitted.
Succession committee practices and considerations before formal selection include, without limitation:
• ensure clarity regarding succession process
• identification of organization needs, including assessment of weaknesses in the organization
• review of role
• involvement of other stakeholders in the succession process
• creation of criteria for assessment
• identification of candidates, preferably in advance
• interview selected candidates
• review personnel records and recommendations
• perform any other investigative activities it deems necessary
• assessment of candidates, including readiness for role
• identify potential additional training
• review terms of engagement
• communication and recommendations with decision maker(s)
With regard to the specific task of qualifying and assessing candidates for Metropolitan, what questions, in addition to those below, would clergy and laity like answered by potential candidates for the position?
1. In your estimation, please tell us what you think are the top three issues/ challenges for the UOCC?
2. What would you do to or how would you “reboot the UOCC into the 21st century”?
3. The fundamental operating priniple of UOCC is sobornopravnist. What is your view of this principle, and
hyow important do you believe it to be in terms of your vision, leadership and stewarship of the UOCC?

How do you plan to support this principle and strengthen the UOCC through its sobornopravnist model?
4. What is your plan for engaging youth in the church?
5. What act or event do you count as the highlight of your calling to the priesthood?
6. What qualities or credentials do you possess that make you a suitable candidate for Metropolitan?
7. What is the most important step in your plan for mission work by the UOCC?
8. What initiative would you suggest to our church faithful in assisting Ukrainian refugees?
9. What role do you see for USRL and its affiliates in the future of the Church?
